Amery Designs is an independent creative business producing distinctive mugs, gifts, homeware and other products designed to make you smile, remember somewhere special, or simply find something a little different.

Our designs begin with ideas.

Sometimes that means sitting down with a blank screen and an idea in my head. Sometimes inspiration comes from a place I've visited, something I've photographed, a ridiculous phrase that makes me laugh, or a character that gradually develops a personality of their own.

I use a variety of tools to turn those ideas into finished designs.

These include my iMac, photography, digital drawing and editing tools such as Affinity Designer, traditional design techniques, and, where appropriate, artificial intelligence.

Yes, we use AI

I believe you deserve to know that before you buy anything from Amery Designs.

AI can form part of my creative process. I may use it to help develop an original concept, explore an illustration, create or refine visual elements, or turn an idea into something I can continue developing.

But it isn't a case of pressing a button and putting whatever appears onto a mug.

I choose the ideas, develop the concepts, direct the creative process, make changes, edit and refine the artwork, discard the things that don't work, and ultimately decide what carries the Amery Designs name.

Some designs involve more AI assistance than others. Some involve none. Photography, digital editing, graphic design, typography and other techniques can all form part of the process.

What matters to me is the finished design.

Why tell you?

Because I'd rather be open about how Amery Designs works.

Artificial intelligence divides opinion. Some people are fascinated by it. Some dislike it. Others simply want to know whether it has been used.

I respect all three positions.

So rather than hide the use of AI or bury it in some obscure corner of the website, I'm telling you here, before you enter the shop.

You can then make your own informed decision.
